Lean on Him

The only way Amanda can move from place to place is if she is carried, by either someone or something. She has several special “vehicles” with wheels designed to carry her from room to room in the house – a wheelchair, stander, and walker or gait trainer. When she needs to leave the house for travel, there is even a specially made van designed to safely carry her in her wheelchair.

However, I think her favorite way to be carried is by her father. When he lifts her and puts her upon his shoulder, her body leans limply into him and depends fully on his strength to carry her. It’s like she lets go and allows her father to provide all of her support, trusting that he will do so. Actually, in these moments Amanda is in complete need of her father, entirely dependent on his ability to hold onto her and get her to where she needs to go.

Amanda reminds me of my desperate need to be carried by my heavenly Father. She makes me ever aware that my Father IS always carrying and upholding me. We find this principle in God’s Word, when He carried the Israelites on eagles’ wings and brought them to Himself (Exodus 19:4). In His love and mercy He redeemed them; He lifted them up and carried them (Isaiah 63:9).

The Lord is like a shepherd who carries his lambs close to his heart (Isaiah 40:11). He has upheld us since we were conceived and carried us since our birth. He has made us and promises to carry, sustain, and rescue us (Isaiah 46: 3-4). And He HAS rescued us, in Jesus, His beloved Son, Who carried our sorrows on the cross of Calvary. Christ upholds all things by the word of His power (Hebrews 1:3).

Let us lean upon the uplifting love of the Lord as we let Him lead us this day.
